Rostechnadzor and BAERA Meet to Discuss Interaction under Interagency Cooperation Agreement
On December 7, 2021, the delegation of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Bangladesh visited Rostechnadzor. The members of the delegation and the representatives of Rostechnadzor headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov held a meeting to discuss further interaction under the interagency cooperation agreement between Rostechnadzor and BAERA, including safety regulation during the construction of the Rooppur NPP.
The Rostechnadzor experts briefed the BAERA delegation on the Russian process for registering equipment and pipelines for nuclear power plants, including clarifications on the role of the regulatory body and the operating organization in this process. The participants of the meeting also discussed the process of authorization for NPP personnel, including categories of workers and areas of responsibility of both the regulatory body and operating organization.
The Rostechnadzor representatives confirmed their readiness to provide BAERA with support in developing regulatory documents and discussed plans for training BAERA specialists in 2022. In addition, the participants preliminarily considered the possibility of sending Russian specialists to Bangladesh in 2022 to provide the BAERA inspectors with support in implementing their supervisory activities during the construction of the Rooppur NPP.
The regulatory bodies of nuclear and radiation safety of Russia and Bangladesh cooperate under the Agreement between the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Russian Federation) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (People’s Republic of Bangladesh) on Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Regulation in the Peaceful Use of Atomic Energy (signed on February 27, 2012, in Moscow).
