Rostechnadzor took part in OECD Nuclear Energy Agency’s virtual mission to Russia
On August 19 and 20, 2020, a virtual mission of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD NEA) took place in Russia. Alexey Ferapontov, Deputy Chairman of Rostechnadzor, took part in the virtual mission.
On the Russian side, the event was attended by a delegation of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation headed by Director General Alexey Likhachev, representatives of Rostechnadzor and SEC NRS, Kurchatov Institute, the academic community (RAS IBRAE), higher educational institutions (NRNU MEPhI, St. Petersburg State University, Tomsk Polytechnic University), and organizations of the nuclear industry (Concern Rosenergoatom , NIIAR, TVEL, OKB Gidropress etc.). On the part of the OECD NEA, Director-General William D. Magwood and heads of divisions and employees of the Agency participated in the virtual mission.
The participants of the virtual mission discussed issues of human resources development, nuclear and radiation safety, nuclear science, radioactive waste management, decommissioning of nuclear facilities, interaction with the NEA Data Bank, and future areas of cooperation.
During the session on nuclear safety, Alexey Ferapontov made a presentation on the implementation of the Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP) and the prospects for its further development.
It was the OECD NEA’s first virtual mission to Russia. In the context of the coronavirus pandemic, Rosatom and the Agency agreed to hold a video conference with a wide range of cooperation issues to be discussed.
