Annual Meeting with Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority Taken in Finland
04.02.2020. An annual meeting to summarize the cooperation between Rostechnadzor and Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) in 2019 and plan bilateral events in 2020 took place in Finland, Helsinki. The delegation of Rostechnadzor was led by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov. The parties exchanged on most significant recent events in the activity of Rostechnadzor and STUK and the nuclear industry of Russia and Finland. Rostechnadzor presented information on the status of the Leningrad NPP-2 units 1 and 2, expected decommissioning works at Leningrad NPP-1 unit 1, prospects of shutdown for decommissioning of Leningrad NPP-1 units 2, 3 and 4 and Kola NPP life extension. STUK informed on the progress of Hanhikivi-1 NPP, Olkiluoto-3 NPP and automation improvements at Loviisa NPP. A special focus of the meeting was on the status of disposal facilities for RW and spent nuclear fuel in the two countries with the spotlight on the construction of Onkalo deep disposal facility for RW in Finland and the underground research laboratory (URL) to study the possibility for siting RW deep disposal facility in Nizhnekansk rock massif (Krasnoyarsk region). Rostechnadzor and STUK agreed on a bilateral cooperation program for 2020, which includes workshops on safety regulation of NPPs and nuclear back-end facilities as well as supervision over accounting, control and physical protection of radioactive materials.
