IAEA DDG Lentijo Visits Rostechnadzor

Rostechnadzor Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov had a meeting with Juan Carlos Lentijo, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security of the International Atomic Energy Agency, on 2 July 2019 at Rostechnadzor HQ.
Mr Ferapontov informed Mr Lentijo about the Russian regulatory framework applied to the floating nuclear and thermal power plant ‘Academician Lomonosov’, the procedure of licensing and construction progress of the first-of-a-kind power unit and onshore facilities of the FNTPP.
The parties also discussed Rostechnadzor’s involvement in the preparation for the 8th Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety, the International Conference on Nuclear Security: Sustaining and Strengthening Efforts (ICONS 2020), the Review Conference of the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Its Amendment (CPPNM/A) and other events under the Agency’s umbrella.
Mr Ferapontov confirmed that Rostechnadzor is interested in holding the next International Conference on Challenges Faced by Technical and Scientific Support Organizations (TSOs) and hosting another IAEA Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) in the Russian Federation in 2022.
Mr Lentijo thanked Rostechnadzor for its active involvement in the work and events of the Agency.
The parties expressed confidence that their constructive and fruitful cooperation on safety issues would be continued, thus contributing to the strengthening of international cooperation as an effective tool for ensuring and maintaining the global nuclear safety regime.
