Rostechnadzor/UNECE Hold a Workshop on Safety of Hydraulic Engineering Structures

Rostechnadzor and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) held a joint workshop on safety of hydraulic engineering structures on April 26 and 27, 2017, in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The workshop was attended by the delegations of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and representatives of regional and international organizations such as the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, UNECE, the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and the Regional Environmental Centre of Central Asia.

The workshop included reports from specialists of Rostechnadzor and FBE STC Energy Safety on the legal and regulatory framework in the area of safety improvement of hydraulic engineering structures, and on the functions and authority of Rostechnadzor in this area.

The workshop participants visited the complex of anti-flood structures of St. Petersburg where they were informed about the existing instrumentation and control, hydraulic equipment, water and shipping gates.

They also had a meeting with the staff of the Vedeneyev Research Institute, a leading scientific centre for issues of hydraulic engineering and power construction and operation of hydraulic facilities.

The workshop concluded the third phase of the UNECE project “Capacity-Building for Cooperation on Dam Safety in Central Asia”.
