Annual Rostechnadzor/STUK Meeting Held in Helsinki


The delegation of Rostechnadzor headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov took part in the annual meeting with the management of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK) arranged to discuss results of bilateral cooperation in 2015 and plan joint activities in 2016. The meeting was held on 27 January 2016 at STUK HQ in Helsinki.

The parties shared information on recent changes in nuclear and radiation safety regulation and agreed on cooperation program for 2016. The parties also discussed a status of Hanhikivi nuclear power plant project of Russian design, which is to be constructed in Finland, including licensing issues.

As a result of the meeting, Rostechnadzor and STUK are planning to arrange in 2016 a number of bilateral workshops and technical meetings dedicated to issues of safety regulation of the nuclear plants, fuel cycle facilities, accounting and control and physical protection of nuclear material, radioactive waste and radiation sources.

In addition, the parties agreed that STUK staff members would participate in inspections of Russian manufacturers of equipment for NPPs and that Rostechnadzor and STUK would continue practice of joint inspections at NPP units under construction.
