The delegation of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority visited Rostechnadzor


The delegation of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) headed by deputy chairman Walid Ibrahim Zidan visited Rostechnadzor on November 2 to 5, 2015.

Considering the plans to construct a nuclear power plant of Russian design in the Arab Republic of Egypt, the main purpose of the visit was to discuss prospective interagency cooperation between the nuclear regulators of Russia and Egypt in assistance to the Egyptian party in developing its national nuclear safety regulatory system.

The ENRRA delegation had a meeting deputy chairman Alexey Ferapontov and visited the technical support organizations of Rostechnadzor.

FSUE VO “Safety” informed the ENRRA delegation about their experience in rendering consultancy for the foreign nuclear regulators and provided comprehensive proposals as to potential services for the development of the Egypt’s national nuclear safety and security regulatory system.

During their visit Scientific and Engineering Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, the Egyptian delegation was informed in detail about the safety reviews performed during the licensing process and using of the computer codes for verification of technical solutions applied in the NPP designs.

The ENRRA delegation also visited Rostechnadzor’s Information and Analysis Centre where they were told about the Russian regulator’s activities in the area of emergency preparedness and response, the equipment used at the centre and its capabilities of assessing and forecasting radiation situation and status of the nuclear facilities.

A draft interagency memorandum of understanding was agreed during the visit. After the MoU is signed by the heads of Rostechnadzor and ENRRA, it will be a basis for cooperation between the regulators of Russia and Egypt.
