The representatives of Rostechnadzor continue their participation in the 59th IAEA General Conference


The representatives of Rostechnadzor as part of the delegation of the Russian Federation continue their participation in the 59th IAEA General Conference that opened on September 14, 2015, in Vienna, Austria.

On September 16, Rostechnadzor Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov and IAEA Deputy Director General Denis Flory met on the side of the General Conference. Mr. Flory positively appreciated the involvement of Rostechnadzor in the implementation of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety, the activities of the Regulatory Cooperation Forum and other events and initiatives of the Agency aimed at improving the safety of peaceful nuclear energy.

Mr. Flory informed about completion of the report on lessons learnt from the Fukushima Daiichi accident. The making of the report involved the effort of more than 180 experts from IAEA Member States. In particular, the IAEA DDG noted the important role the document will play for the development of nuclear energy worldwide for at least the next two decades.

As part of the bilateral events scheduled on the margins of the General Conference, the Rostechnadzor delegation had meetings with Gyula Fichtinger, Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority, and Naser Rastkhah, Vice President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran/Head of the Iran Nuclear Regulatory Authority, and representatives of the regulatory authorities of Belarus and Bangladesh to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation and identify prospective areas of cooperation.

In addition, the Rostechnadzor representatives took part in the Senior Regulators’ Meeting and in the plenary of the Regulatory Cooperation Forum.

The 59th IAEA General Conference will close on September 18th.
