Delegation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Visits Rostechnadzor


The delegation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria headed by Prof. Lawrence Dim, Director General of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, visited Rostechnadzor on April 1, 2015. The Rostechnadzor side was headed by Alexander Rybas, State Secretary – Deputy Chairman.

IMG_1201.JPGDuring the meeting, the Nigerian delegation was informed about the Russian safety regulation system in the field of the use of atomic energy and the Russian legal regulatory framework in the field of the use of atomic energy. Also, the Nigerian side was informed about the capabilities of FSUE VO "Safety" to arrange training of the regulatory staff from the embarking countries on the basis of Russian nuclear technology.

The parties admitted that it would be appropriate to establish a working group on regulatory framework within the Joint Russian-Nigerian Coordination Committee in order to implement the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on cooperation in design, construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear power plants in the territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria made on June 4, 2012. As its major task, the working group will coordinate the activity aimed at developing and strengthening of the Nigerian national safety regulation system in the use of atomic energy.

For the purpose of further improvement of the cooperation between the regulatory bodies of Russia and Nigeria, it was arranged that the parties would prepare the Agreement between Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority on cooperation in nuclear and radiation safety regulation in peaceful uses of atomic energy. A draft Agreement was handed to the Nigerian side for study at the meeting.
