South Africa's NNR Delegation Visits Russia


On October 7, 2014, a bilateral meeting on licensing of new NPP units between the Rostechnadzor delegation headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov and the delegation of the National Nuclear Regulator of South Africa headed by Senior Manager for Compliance, Assurance and Enforcement Ditebogo Kgomo took place at the office of Rostechnadzor North European Department.

IMG_3466.jpgThe parties reported on the current state licensing systems of Russia and South Africa in the field of the use of atomic energy. One of the Rostechnadzor representatives also spoke about the permanent supervision regime applied to the units of the Leningrad NPP-2 being constructed by Rosenergoatom.

On October 8, 2014, the NNR delegation had a technical visit to LNPP-2 where the construction director presented the progress of the construction. In addition, the NNR delegation visited a number of facilities on the construction site of the first unit of LNPP-2, in particular, the reactor and turbine buildings.

As a result of the visit of the South African delegation, the parties reconfirmed their mutual interest in developing and strengthening the cooperation between Rostechnadzor and the NNR in the area of nuclear and radiation safety regulation.
