Rostechnadzor Receives Final Report of IRRS Follow-up Mission to the Russian Federation

20.05.2014 In early May 2014, Denis Flory, IAEA Deputy Director General, Head of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, submitted the Agency's final report on the Integrated Regulatory Review Service Follow-up Mission, which was conducted during November 11-19, 2013, in Moscow. The final report summarizes conclusions of the experts who took part in the Follow-up Mission and forms an official submission by the International Atomic Energy Agency to the Government of the Russian Federation.

The final report will be published on the official website of Rostechnadzor after it is translated into Russian (for the English version, please follow this link).

The final report will be a basis for updating the Rostechnadzor Action Plan in compliance with the suggestions and recommendations of the IRRS Follow-up Mission in order to further enhance the regulatory effectiveness in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy in Russia.

The IRRS Follow-up Mission at Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostechnadzor) as an authorized body of state safety regulation in atomic energy use in the Russian Federation took place during November 11 to 19, 2014, in Moscow. It comprised a review of the implementation of the recommendations made by the 2009 IRRS Mission, as well as assessment of Rostechnadzor activities in the areas of:

- Emergency preparedness and response, and

- Regulatory implications of the TEPCO Fukushima Dai-ichi Accident.

The IRRS Follow-up Mission resulted in recommendations and suggestions for further improvement of the regulatory activities of Rostechnadzor, identification of good practices which could be recommended to the nuclear safety authorities of the other IAEA Member States.
